How Color Matching Works at Our North Miami Beach Showroom
Color matching is the part of an extension order most likely to need a second look. Not the method, and not the length. And in most cases the trouble starts in the same place: a shade was approved on a screen.
Why does color need more care than anything else?
Method you can settle in a consultation. Length is a number. Color is a judgment, and it is the only part of the order that depends on light. Hair that reads right under your salon's lights can read warm by the window and ashy in a photo, and your client will see all three in the same week.
The second reason is that human hair is an organic material, so slight variations can occur between batches, even inside the same shade family. That is why the comparison that matters is the hair in your hand against the client in your chair, not a picture of either one.
What is the Di Milesi Color System?
It is our physical color ring, organized into five color concepts so you can find the family before you start arguing about single shades:
Onyx. Blacks and deep natural shades.
Hazel. Browns and warm natural shades, where most clients actually live.
Ember. Warm copper and strawberry blonde.
Sunny. Golden shades and warm blondes.
Pearl. Cool, icy and pearly blondes, the ones a camera ruins fastest.
Each shade in the ring belongs to one of those five families. Once you know which family your client sits in, the number of shades you are actually choosing between drops fast. The Di Milesi Color System is the physical object that makes that call possible, and it is what we work from at the showroom.
How do you use the ring on a real head?
In three places, not one. Root, mid-length and ends almost never agree, and matching only the mid-length is how you end up with a blend that looks right in the chair and wrong the moment she pulls it back.
Hold the swatch flat against her hair, running the same direction, and then step back. Color read at arm's length is the color other people see. Then check it twice: once near the window and once under your own salon lights. When the two disagree, go with the light your client actually lives in — the office, the restaurant, the daylight she is photographed in.
What can a screen not tell you?
More than most people expect. Phone cameras correct white balance on their own, display settings shift it again, and two people looking at the same photo on two phones are not looking at the same color. On a dark base a small shift hides. On cool, icy and pearly blondes the same shift is the difference between a seamless blend and a visible mismatch, which is why those are the shades we most want you to compare in person.
What if you cannot come in?
Send us photos on WhatsApp at (786) 965-3647. Hair dry and worn down, in indirect natural daylight, no filter and no portrait mode. Send three: roots, mid-lengths and ends. If you can, put something white or neutral in the frame, so our team can see whether the light is running warm or cool. We work with this every day and can usually get you close. We will not pretend a screen match is a guarantee.
What should you do the moment the hair arrives?
Check it before it goes anywhere near your client. Shade, length, texture, weight and method, under good light, against the order you placed.
Our policy allows one gentle first wash before installation, and that is deliberate: washing shows you the real texture and how the color behaves wet and dry. Hair that has had that first wash can still qualify for return or exchange. Installation is the line that changes things, because once the hair is installed it counts as used and can only be looked at through our quality analysis. So if something looks wrong, tell us while it is still in your hand.
How do you plan a blend instead of a single shade?
Many of the most natural-looking results use two or more complementary shades rather than one flat color, because natural hair often carries subtle variation from root to end. Mixing inside a concept gives you depth; crossing between two neighboring concepts gives you dimension.
Keratin F-Tip lets you place color strand by strand. Slim Weft (Genius Weft) and Regular Weft let you build dimension across a row. With Regular Tape-In and Invisible Tape-In you alternate shades through the application to blend. And when nothing in the ring does what you need, bulk human hair is where custom work starts. If you have not settled on a method yet, that is a separate decision and worth making first.
When is it worth the drive?
When it is a shade you have never installed. When you are buying more than a pack or two of it. When the client is one you have already redone once. And when the order is the seasonal one that has to carry you through a full calendar.
Our showroom is at 15805 Biscayne Blvd, Suite 304, in North Miami Beach. Walk-ins are welcome, and our team works in English, Portuguese and Spanish. If you are coming for something specific, like South Brazilian Hair, message us first so it is on the table when you arrive.
Our North Miami Beach showroom serves professionals from Miami, Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale and the rest of South Florida.
Salon owners and licensed stylists buy at professional pricing once they are approved on our professional page. A person reviews every application, usually inside one to two business days.
